If you stepped outside this morning and thought it looked like a 1920s Havana film set, you are right in the middle of the magic. Today is Los Indianos, the most iconic day of the La Palma Carnival.
While you are reading this, thousands of people are gathering in Santa Cruz de La Palma to celebrate our history in the most colourful (well, mostly white) way possible.
If you are currently in the capital, you are likely surrounded by a sea of white linen, vintage suitcases, and the scent of talcum powder. This tradition celebrates the "Indianos," the islanders who emigrated to Cuba and returned home with riches and style.
The Look: Elegant white dresses, Panama hats, and "guayaberas" (traditional shirts).
The Powder: A giant battle of talcum powder that covers the streets and the people. If you aren't white by the end of the day, you didn't do it right!
The Music: The rhythm of Son Cubano filling every plaza.
As much as we love the madness of Los Indianos, there comes a point in the afternoon when the powder gets in your eyes, your feet are tired from dancing, and you crave a moment of quiet.
This is where the magic of staying on the coast comes in. While the capital party continues late into the night, our guests have a secret weapon: the drive back to Puerto Naos.
After a day of being covered in talcum powder and Caribbean rhythms, there is no better feeling than returning to our studio.
The Shower: Trust us, you will need a long, hot shower to find your original hair colour again.
The Peace: Puerto Naos stays much calmer than the capital, offering you the perfect place to decompress.
The Sunset: Watching the sun go down over the Atlantic from your balcony is the ultimate way to end the most famous day in La Palma.
If you missed out on the fun this year, don't worry. The "Indianos" spirit stays with us all year long, and the white sands of our nearby beaches are always here waiting for you.
